Abu-Ghazaleh Reviews Expected Events in the US Before January 20

AMMAN – Well-known economist, HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), reviewed the expected events and developments between now and the inauguration day of Joe Biden, the elected President, on January 20.

In a new interview with Mr. Osama Kamal, presenter of ’90 Minutes’ program aired on “Al Mehwar” Egyptian TV Channel, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expected that President Donald Trump will spark a more critical crisis in the United States in the coming days, in an attempt to stay in power.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed that rising “Populism” in the US will devour democracy and play a significant role in what will happen in the near future. That is in addition to the role of social media platforms, noting that America is preparing for a new kind of democracy after the transition of power on January 20.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh referred to news reports dealing with different American issues such as calls for mass demonstrations on January 19 and the possibility that Trump might declare martial law in the whole country, in addition to talk about armed groups, mobs and political movements that are preparing to disrupt the transfer of power to Biden and keep Trump in office.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh also referred to Trump’s conflicting statements; once promising a smooth transition of power, and then declaring that he will not leave the White House.

He pointed out that the United State of America is the only state that has private guns in the possession of the population that exceed the total number of the American people; which is allowed   by the US Constitution and the law.

Accordingly, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said that Trump has two options: Either resist surrendering his presidency and call for a revolutionary movement or a popular uprising on January 20, by sending his armed supporters to protect him in the White House before the transition of power; or to leave peacefully for the sake of his country  and face possible imprisonment.

Abu-Ghazaleh further said that "the pressure Trump is currently facing from the Congress and some circles in his country would only provide him with the necessary pretexts he badly needs to hold on to power and refuse to leave the White House, on the grounds that he won but his victory was stolen"; adding that "only one million out of the 70 million who voted for Trump could cause chaos in the country".

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh concluded by saying that: “If Trump wants to control the scene, he will declare martial law where he becomes  the Commander in Chief of the United States’ Armed Forces, hence, he will declare a war on China or Iran. At this point, politics will have no role in the presence of weapons on the ground.”
