    Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum Hosts Launch Ceremony of ‘Pioneers of Safe Driving Network' and the 'Idol Driver’ program

    AMMAN – Under the patronage of the Public Security Director Maj. Gen. Fadel Al-Hamoud, the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum (TAG-KF) hosted the launch ceremony of the ‘Pioneers of Safe Driving Network' and the 'Idol Driver’, organized in collaboration with the National Forum for Awareness and Development, National Youth Congress and the Public Security Directorate (PSD).

    Assistant Director of Public Security for Traffic, Brigadier Ziad Bakir, Col. Wahid Al Nawafleh, Director of Jordan Traffic Institute and Director of Amman Traffic Department, Col. Basem Al Kharabsheh were also in attendance, with the participation of representatives of universities and civil society institutions in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and in cooperation with a number of youth organizations.  

    HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh welcomed the attendees and commended all efforts to enhance the culture of volunteering and community service among the youth. He also expressed his pride and appreciation to the Public Security Directorate for its efforts in improving road safety. 

    Furthermore, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh suggested hosting all experts and stakeholders of traffic management including representatives of the PSD, Greater Amman Municipality, Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Ministry of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Interior in a technical-oriented meeting to find real solutions to solve traffic congestion, and submit recommendations to decision-makers and members of Parliament, noting that citizens need to see solutions applied on the ground.

    “In my capacity as Chair of the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization (CSU) a New York based non-for-profit organization, one of the most important topics we discuss is how to facilitate road traffic measures to citizens worldwide,” Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said, noting that Artificial Intelligence has already been involved in such measures in many countries, which necessitates discussing its implementation in Jordan as well. 

    Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh referred to the main AI tools used in this field mostly radar-based monitoring with the help of AI, self-driving cars, smart traffic lights, pilotless planes, drones, car-sized autonomous drones in the future, and public instead of private parking for driverless cars.

    For his part, Dr. Mohammad Al Bdour, head of the National Youth Congress, briefed the attendees on the implementation mechanisms of the ‘Idol Driver’ program in a number of national institutions to become a recognized practice in developing human resources policies. 

    Dr. Al Bdour added that the Congress programs included the formation of a team of coordinators who participated in panel discussions with decision makers from the Senate, the Lower House, the Ministry of Youth and a number of universities to discuss national priority issues as well as the Royal Discussion Papers.

    The first phase of the initiative included a compliance with traffic rules for one year list of honorees, 

    On behalf of the youth, Areen Al Abadi pointed out that the participation of youth signifies their sense of responsibility towards their homeland, its security and their awareness of the importance of reducing road traffic accidents. She also affirmed that youth endeavors to contribute to the enhancement of community culture through civilized behaviour that is based on compliance with the road traffic rules to make roads safer. 

    Meanwhile, Mr. Fadi Daoud, TAG-KF Executive Director, welcomed the attendees referring to HM King Abdullah II’s directions on the importance of establishing an effective partnership between private and public sectors, stressing TAG-KF’s pride in hosting the launch ceremony of this important initiative which embodies such a partnership.

    Daoud also highlighted the inspiring slogan raised by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Abdullah bin Al Hussein “Our Strength is in Our Youth” adding that the youth represent the largest proportion of Jordan's population and the future of the nation.

    During an open discussion on the sideline of the launch ceremony, the Directorate of Public Security briefed the attendees on its plans and programs that enhance a national culture-founded on compliance with road traffic rules.
     
    At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh presented honorary shields to the directors of the PSD, Traffic Department and Jordan Traffic Institute for their great role in maintaining the security of citizens.
