    Abu-Ghazaleh and Shboul Discuss Role of Media in Developing Economy and Attracting Investments

    AMMAN – The Activation of the Economy-Support Media Committee -one of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum committees, hosted Mr. Faisal Al Shboul, director general of Jordan News Agency (Petra) in the presence of Chairman of the Forum HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh to discuss the role of media as a key supporter and partner in the development of the national economy and investment attraction.

    Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh commended Petra and its director general for its efforts in serving and developing the media sector, expressing hopes that the country's official media will play a role in supporting the the economy, investors and economic projects within advanced media plans that will eventually serve the national economy.

    Shboul underlined Petra’s mission saying that the news agency is the first media outlet disseminating local news by generating around 64% of the news content in Jordan.

    He addressed various related topics including the media's mission and message saying that national media reflects the confidence of society in a time where society is actively engaged in a media mix between media outlets and social media networks.

    Shboul highlighted the importance of capital and financing in supporting media and protecting it from extortion, adding that media staff must be professional and experienced in order to deliver the media message professionally.

    On the other hand, he stated that print media is suffering a big financial crisis requiring an immediate solution to save it from decline, adding that the financial element is the most crucial in supporting the print press industry.

    Moreover, Shboul underlined the significance of amending some press and publication laws to confront deception and extortion practiced by some media outlets and social networks, adding that professionalism in media is in decline due to unregulated  social networks and the lack of media ethics and professionalism.

    He also explained that Jordan does not have an influential external media able to assist its official efforts in disseminating the media message due to financial and political reasons.

    At the end of the meeting, head of the Committee Dr. Tayseer Ammari extended gratitude to Shboul for his insightful input and contributions to the media sector.
